Objectives
- Gain insights and develop techniques & approaches in how to prepare oneself for success when applying for a HoU position
- Identify potential obstacles in your path so that they can progress towards being appointed to the right post for you
- Develop an understanding of how you can deal with setbacks you may face e.g. being rejected for a post you really wanted

Prework
- Identify a specific HoU position you would like to apply for or have already unsuccessfully applied for. This will be used throughout the course (and shared with others in small groups) so it’s an important part of your preparation.
- Print out the handout/map documents.
- To help understand how others’ perceive you vis-a-vis a management position, please ask 3 people who you work closely with the following questions:1 Which 3 adjectives would you use to describe me?2 What would you say are my 3 top strengths/qualities?Tell me about 1 area I should pay attention to in my further development as a manager.We suggest you ask 1 peer, 1 person in your hierarchy and one person in your team
